Every Challenge is an
Opportunity in Disguise

The pandemic has definitely changed our lives. Its impact has been felt the past 2 years, and its effects will continue to be for years to come.

At the beginning of the pandemic, we were all hoping to return to normal as soon as possible. But maybe this is a time for us to reflect on what “normal” really is for us and take this as an opportunity to be better versions of ourselves.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we were able to, amidst the pandemic, become stronger, better, and wiser? Challenges can be opportunities in disguise, and here are a few learnings that I have seen in my own life that may also be applicable to yours.

1. CREATE NEW FAMILY TRADITIONS

Challenge: Travel, regular family gatherings, and weekend mall visits have been disrupted.

As a family, we saw this as an opportunity for us to create new traditions – now we have Family Movie Nights during the weekend via online streaming! Added bonus is that the cost of streaming subscription is actually cheaper than watching in cinemas. We may not be seeing the latest blockbuster films, but the classic ones are also fun to watch with the kids!

Challenge: Difficulty in meeting face-to-face with officemates and friends.

Even if we don’t get to meet face-to-face as often as before, there are a lot of new ways to ensure that we keep in touch with family and friends. There are a lot of activities that we can enjoy over a webcam call: from online Bingo (for the older generation!) to fun quiz nights. Also, we can take this opportunity to just send a message to your friends that we haven’t seen in a long time just to ask how they are and help spread “positivity” (the good kind!).

2. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS - DIGITALLY

3. LIVE HEALTHIER

Challenge: We’re all scared of getting sick, and the basketball courts are closed!!

The best defense against sickness is to make our bodies strong and resilient. Vaccines help with that, but we still need to make sure that we eat healthy and get enough exercise. Since I personally could not play basketball, I had to think of other ways to still move. Thankfully, there are apps that we can use to exercise at home (Nike app for one), and we also got into biking as a family activity. Plus it’s a good way to get fresh air and enjoy the scenery.

And for your healthy meals, there’s always Century Tuna (shameless plug)!

I’m sure there are a lot of other ideas out there to make your life better. I hope this just serves as a simple reminder that when life gives you lemons, make tuna pasta with lemon butter.
